For the surfer/yoga/foodie daddy…June 13, 2013

father's day 13'

1.yoga mat 2. make this for your daddy 3.surf mobile 4.candle 5.card 6.shades 7. surfboard

I’m a daddy’s girl at heart…although we didn’t celebrate this day in Poland in my youth, I want to make it special for my surfer hubby and his two girls.  They both love their daddy so much…Elle the bigger girl adores him to pieces and so we plan to make him bagels like the above for breakfast (thanks RUE magazine for inspiration) and shower him with LOVE!

Perhaps he’ll get one of the above too…i bet he’s hoping for the van..hehe

What are your plans with your daddy or your kid’s daddy?

On the side note (the summer I met my hubby I asked what he wanted for his b-day and he said a school bus for all his surfboards…so i got him the cutest little yellow toy bus…he still has it somewhere)

A PIECE OF TOAST BLOGThank you to our old friend Leandra for sporting the MAUI maillot on her blog (read her post and tell me you don’t want to do the same?) and our new friend Samantha and the cute sisters Sally and Molly.  Both the “could I have that” and “a piece of toast” are super cool blogs which I honestly will go back to again:)  Tell me have you been reading them all along and am I an old lady that’s so behind?

They have a great eye and a common love for the zig zag edge!

Thanks ladies! HAPPY SUMMER!!!

BIKINI BITES…Granola barsJune 3, 2013

Happy Monday Everyone!

It’s was so hot in New York City the last few days…sure made me think of the bikini body I DO NOT HAVE. My sweet girl will be 4 months in two days yet I’m not looking bikini ready at all.  I’m not trying to beat myself up about it as I found that my body holds on to the extra weight while I’m breastfeeding…but I know that if I was better about saying NO to sweets I could drop a few more pounds at least….soooo how do I curb the sweet cravings?  HOMEMADE GRANOLA!  Nathaniel has been making these delish and cold bars (otherwise they fall apart) and they are soooooo gooooood!  This is much healthier then let’s say..banana split from DQ and the coconut oil is supposed to help speed up metabolism.  Try it and you’ll be hooked too.  Great to bring to the beach or pool with you (in a cooler)

I’m off to the beach next weekend…eeekkkkk Gotta go to yoga 3 times this week (that’s my goal at least)

Dry ingredients:

  • -raw cashews
  • -dry roasted almonds
  • -macadamia nuts
  • -dried pineapple
  • -dried cranberries
  • -shredded unsweetened coconut
  • -raw pumpkin seeds
  • -chia seeds
  • -oats

You can use any combination here. Use your favorite nuts and dried fruit. To make things easier, I sometimes just pick a tasty looking trail mix off the shelf at the grocery store. I usually try and keep the ratio close to 1:1 (nuts/fruit:oats)

Wet ingredients: 1/2 cup of each

  • -raw honey
  • -almond butter
  • -extra virgin coconut oil
  • -coconut manna

Roughly chop nuts and dried fruit in a food processor. Combine in large bowl with pumpkin seeds, shredded coconut, and oats.

Place all wet ingredients in a double boiler and gently warm until combined.

Pour wet ingredient mixture over dry ingredient mixture and thoroughly combine. It should be sticky enough so that you could form a ball with the mixture. Grease up a shallow baking sheet with coconut oil and spread mixture evenly on to sheet. Using your hands, press granola mixture evenly out on to the baking sheet. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 2 hours. Remove from fridge, flip baking sheet upside down onto a cutting board and gently tap so that the granola releases from the pan. Cut into squares. Keep refrigerated.

Foodie Friday gets a new name…May 5, 2013

and it goes…….BIKINI BITES

We thought since we are a swimwear company we should show you recipes that are bikini body friendly…not fatty delicious things you should not be having……maybe once in a while we’ll do some devilish desert, but only because I don’t think you need to rid yourself of all those things all of the time.  I call it sweet day.  Once a week my older daughter and I (she also loves sweets)have a sweet day.  Waffles for breakfast and desert after dinner…she also has a sweet roll from a chinatown bakery on the way to ballet class.  HA!

You know I just had a baby (she’s 3 months today)  and I think it’s time for me to get serious about losing the weight or else I won’t feel good at the beach this summer.  I hope it’s possible to keep breast feeding and lose weight (my acupuncturist thinks so)  She suggested to cut out the sugar and don’t eat past 6:30PM…..I can do that…right?

Who wants to try this with me?  Come on, I need some support.  Let’s start tomorrow…Mondays are great for this.

So for the first BIKINI BITES….Nathaniel makes his yummy  Salade Nicoise!  You can eat it for lunch or dinner and get full guilt free and is oh soooo good for the body.  Don’t forget the summer is coming soon!

Watch the beautiful video below by our talented friend TARA SGROI and get inspired. Receipt under video. Bon Appetiti!

You will need:(serves 4)

1/2lb sushi grade tuna

4 hard boiled eggs

12 baby potatoes, or a couple large potatoes(red or yukon gold work well) cut into bite size pieces

green string beans

olives(nicoise olives are  the traditional route, but I like to use Kalamatas because you can get them without the pit)

lettuces of your choice…go with what is in season. I used butter lettuce with sorrel and ramp greens(spring season)

For the dressing: If you have time, make dressing about an hour beforehand as the flavors will have time to develop

  • hazelnut oil
  • meyer lemon
  • ramps(white part finely diced)
  • dijon mustard
  • sherry vinegar
  • salt and pepper

Sear the tuna in olive oil over high heat just enough to get some color on each side…about 2 minutes per side. Boil the potatoes, beans and eggs; potatoes and eggs about 10mins, beans 2mins. Remove all three to ice water bath.

Mix all the dressing ingredients except the oil. Slowly drizzle in oil at end until emulsified(mixed good). Slice tuna, peel eggs, cut beans into bite size pieces. Toss lettuces in dressing(reserve some dressing) Plate lettuces and add tuna, egg, potato, beans, olives. dress with reserved dressing. ENJOY
