Marysia SWIM was born out of designer Maria Dobrzanska Reeves desire to fill the void within the swimsuit industry. She wanted to create a boutique brand for today’s fashionable women who appreciate high quality and design with a flattering fit. These ambitions led to the launch of marysia SWIM in 2008, which puts attention to detail, impeccable fit, and overall quality at the forefront of its designs. The bathing suits have found favor among editors and those seeking effortless sophistication.
Polish-born and known as Marysia to family and friends, the designer’s love of fashion began as a young girl. Marysia attended the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) in Los Angeles after prior studies of ballet and biology. Following her training, an internship with Milly in New York ignited the design spark that ultimately would lead her to begin her own company. Marysia went on to win the 2009 Emerging Designer Competition South East.
Shortly after completing her first swimwear collection, Reeves discovered that although she was perfectly outfitted for jaunts to the beach, her young daughter had nothing nearly as chic. The designer set out to create a collection that would showcase the same impeccable fit, thoughtful details and quality Italian textiles. “Bumby”, a name affectionately used by Ernest Hemingway for his first-born, sounded perfectly endearing to Reeves. The collection has grown since its inception to include European style swim trunks for boys.
In February 2010, marysia SWIM launched its e-commerce site in order to expand itself, reach more of its adoring fans worldwide, and add to the already growing international stock list.
In 2011 the company moved to New York City where it continues to expand.
